Vacation Time!
OK, so this weekend was a great success! We've had this vacation to Switzerland planned for a few months now, before we knew anything about the ice cream shoppe. So, maybe the middle of the summer isn't the most ideal time for me to take off...but, I do have complete faith in my employees and their problem solving abilities. So, I feel pretty comfortable. Then again, maybe the middle of the summer is ideal, give me a few days to breathe. Either way, I'm excited and I know it will be a great re-energizer for us to kick off the rest of the summer and go into the fall. I'll write when we return!

I'm excited to work all day long today and meet our guests! Hope to see ya'll there:)

Priorities...As Simple As...
Really, the only way to manage this crazy life we all lead is to deal with priorities. Here's what I figure, I will never be completely caught up with everything. That is quite a realization. There will always be something else, the next thing, the list of to-do's... That will never go away. So, priorities. It's simple, right? But seriously, to me it seems like everything is important. Everything with Higgy's needs to get done in a timely manner. Taking care of the kids needs to take priority. Taking care of our home needs to happen. And, of course, spending time with our family is critical. Wow, I guess that means a couple things have to give. I'm thinking sleep has to be one of them, much to my dismay. I figured out quite quickly that hours spent cleaning the house will just have to either wait or drop substantially. Grocery shopping is also another thing that can get pushed away to a safe distance. So, here's the plan: I'm going to do the "must do's" daily, whether it's doing the dishes, making calls, doing something fun with the kids, spending time with Steve... Then, I'll do a couple things daily that don't have to be done daily and rotate through them, so that I get to them, just not right away. Then, there's the issue of taking a day off. What?? But I've got to pull weeds, or do laundry, or go grocery shopping...Well, I guess these too can wait, at least for one more day. So, time to get to it! I must go DO!

Ribbon Cutting
We're doing our Ribbon Cutting tomorrow, Friday the 23rd at 1pm. We'll have the Broomfield Chamber there, our staff, and whoever else comes over for the picture. We had a couple ads in the Broomfield Enterprise this week about our Grand Opening.

Activities for Grand Opening
Yay! Grand Opening weekend. Weather? Lookin' iffy...oh well, we certainly can't rely on the weather when living in CO:). So, here's the plan- balloons, little prizes for the kids, a FACE PAINTER, give aways, and specials on ice cream. We are very excited. We are going to be rolling out the Higgy's themed creations pre-made in the dipping cabinet, to improve efficiency, and to get the guests their ice cream quicker. Excited to see how that goes. The plan is for that to be one of the main things that makes Higgy's great. Great, premade, creations. Yummmm!

Grand Opening
Grand Opening week at Higgy's! I'm coming up with a few prizes for give aways for Saturday. I'll have some balloons for the kiddos, a face painter, music, and specials on ice cream. We're planning/hoping/expecting, this to be one of our biggest days this summer. We're going to get pictures up on the Regular's Wall of some of our guests. I'll be working all day on Saturday, which I'm looking forward to. It's nice to see and talk with our guests. I enjoy being a part of their experience. Hope to see you there!

An Opportunity
It's really quite easy to feel sorry for ourselves, isn't it? I'm too busy, or I don't have enough of this or that, and on and on. I get to feeling sometimes like things are too busy. I don't like being busy. I got to thinking the other day, though, that I'm not doing anything I didn't sign up for. Everything I do, I do because I made a decision once that I was going to do that thing. So then I got to thinking about how many people I hear saying that they don't have health insurance, they don't have a job, they don't have any number of things that it would be really difficult to get by without. I do. I do have a business, I do have health insurance, I do have an awesome husband and precious children. What I have is an opportunity to be great. So, enough of this I'm too busy, blah blah blah. I have an opportunity!

Ice Cream Cakes
Ice Cream Cakes! Ashlie has been making cakes since we opened and is getting quite good and creative at it. It's pretty amazing what you can do with a cake, she's done the grim reaper! How crazy is that?! Yesterday Ashlie made a Gummy Bear Kingdom Castle ice cream cake for Grace's birthday, it was awesome. Higgy's is doing ice cream cakes for all different kinds of events. They're delicious and beautiful, order yours for your next celebration!

Planning for Grand Opening
We've been open for a couple months and counting now, and we're getting ready to have our Grand Opening in a couple weeks. It'll be on Saturday July 24th starting at noon. The plan is to have balloons, a face painter, and some more fun surprises. Along with having some things on the walls in the shoppe. We're excited to see all of our regulars and quite a few people we don't know pulled in by the excitement of it. We are so thankful to everyone who chooses Higgy's to be their regular place to go for ice cream! Plan on July 24th at Higgy's!

Tip of the Day
Moderation.
Simple as that. It's a great concept and we could use more of it in our excessive culture and lives. I'll be the first one to take my own advice. We have wonderful ice cream at Higgy's, and that too, should be enjoyed in moderation. That way you don't have to feel bad about it when you eat it, you can just enjoy it and say, "I'll see you again next time". We want this to be an exciting experience for our guests that they look forward to the next time.
My First Followers!
Thank you to my friend, Erica, for becoming my first follower-besides myself...:)
Thanks to Rebecca, also for following my facebook link about the blog and checking it out!
Thanks ladies:)

Calling All Regulars
Hey all you regulars of Higgy's Ice Cream out there- 1st of all, thank you for being a regular! 2nd, next time you're in the shoppe, tell us you want to be on our "Regular's Wall". We'll take a picture of you and put it up on the wall of fame:). We appreciate you!
How do Mom's do it??
Question of the day: How, all you working mom's out there, do you do it all?? I can't figure this thing out. What gives-the cleaning, the cooking, the shopping, the play time, the laundry? And the list goes on. I have a lot to learn, but now that it's 6:30pm, I think I better at least go make dinner!
It's Raining It's Pouring
It's been raining off and on for a week now, July 4th week! Not the best for business, but good...for the grass...I guess? We are building up the business for the shoppe with outside events, catering, and cakes. We are also donating ice cream and gift certificates for fundraisers to help the organizations out and at the same time getting the Higgy's name out there. We live in Colorado and can't always count on the weather being nice enough for people to go out for ice cream. As Steve says: "We have to bring it to where they are".
SO...tell us where you are!
SO...tell us where you are!
You Have the BEST Job in the World
Encouragment for the day: a lady at the cash register in the shoppe tells me, "You have the best job in the world!" Wow, what a great reminder of how blessed I am!
Tip of the Day
At the end of the day, it's just ice cream. As we're building this business, this is one of our favorite sayings. We keep it in the front of our minds that, daily, we serve people one of their favorite foods and we are part of the favorite part of their day.
The Journey Begins
May 1st, 2010- OPENING DAY! Wow, what a whirlwind that was! Steven owns a business, I take care of our 3 daughters at home, and we opened Higgy's Ice Cream...are we CRAZY?? :) No, we just always thought owning a sweet shoppe would be awesome. Pretty sure it's every kids dream job for their parents to have, right? Our opening weekend was great, lots of friends and family, but the majority of guests were people we didn't know at all. Just people who love ice cream!
Who We Are
Higgy's Ice Cream is located at the Westminster Promenade by the theatres. We make homemade, good old fashioned American ICE CREAM!! We are the Higgins family, consisting of Steven and Pauline (owners) and 3 daughters: Grace, Maelynn, and Ellabelle. Steven and I grew up in Broomfield, CO and now own Higgy's Ice Cream Shoppe just a few miles away from our home in Broomfield.
